August 31st, 2009 - Chicks and Love
I just love the style of this girl, especially her legs. I still get a chuckle out of them.
It is a well constructed pattern, with good instructions. I went with all felt rather than using buttons for the eyes, since it was for a little one.
I also made a little card to go with the gift, inspired by one I saw in a mag.
Sally really seemed to like them and was super appreciative. Congratulations again Sally and family, the baby is adorable!
Today is a special day today, as 4 years ago this afternoon I married the love of my life in beautiful Barbados. (This fall we will be celebrating 8 years together). I love you sweetie, thanks for making every day as special as our wedding day.
August 15th, 2009 - Hoots and Fruits
Growing up I was best friends with a classmate of mine. We met when we were 8 and we were inseparable. We did absolutely everything together, and often freaked people out with the talent of finishing each others sentences. As we grew up we lost touch for a while, but thanks to social networking we were reconnected a couple of years ago. It has been great to be back in touch, especially finding out that we still have a lot in common (both worked in marketing, both knitters and crafters, etc).
When she emailed a while back to tell me that she was pregnant, I knew I wanted to make something special for her and her husband (who is a great match for her). I had originally thought that I would make something to match the nursery, but I saw this fabric and thought it was very her.
Quilt Title: Hoots and Fruits
Fabric: Timeless Treasures Apple Family
Pattern: Marble Champ Quilt
I had so much fun making this one, both because of the method and also because of the fabric. I mean c'mon, little retro coloured owls? So cute.
I did some free motion quilting on my machine, which was...interesting. After a couple of tries and some picking out, I was happy with the result.
I found a cute owl stamp that I could use for the card too.
I got a lovely email when my friend received the package in the mail, and her little boy has since arrived safe and sound into the world. I hope that parenting is everything you hoped it to be, and I hope this quilt gets lots of use, love and drool!
August 11th, 2009 - Sister's Birthday Gift
It was my sister's birthday a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to make her something for her home. Last year I made her some coasters, and so I thought I would use the same fabrics to make some kitchen towels for her.
They are a microfibre towel, and I stripped together random sized squares and sewed them onto the towels in a strip. Simple, but with a pretty result.
I had some fun with colour too making her card.
So mean. She called to say she liked everything though, so that one was a success.
August 4th, 2009 - Huge Card Update
Hey there! I've had a great couple of weeks visiting with my parents, sorry for the absence. I realized when I looked at my photos this morning that I have made a huge number of cards lately, and haven't posted any of them. The main card gallery has all of them, but here are a few of my recent favourites.
Inspired by a photo in a mag.
I am really starting to enjoy the card making process, and I feel like I am starting to branch out a little. There are so many stamps that I would love to add to my collection - especially from here. Have you seen these? Too cute!
At the same time that I noticed that I had lots of backlogged cards, I realized I have some backlogged projects as well. Which is good news for the blog. I just wish I check off my "want to do" list as fast as the "to be blogged" list...
