June 27th, 2006 - I'm Going to Italy!
So a last minute trip has come up at work, and I am leaving for Naples, Italy this afternoon! I don't know how much time I am going to get to see the city or the area, but has anyone ever been there before? If you were in Napoli and had one free afternoon to look around, where would you go? And most importantly, do you know of any yarn shops in Naples?
June 11th, 2006 - Amazed by Miniatures
Ever since I was a little kid, I have always loved miniatures. My dad built me a beautiful doll house when I was about 5, and I think that is what started it. My parents next door neighbour is a collector of doll houses (the amazing "not to be played with" kind) and she was always nice enough to let me stop over to see the tiny little spools of thread and the little forks and spoons. As an adult, I am not a person that collects miniatures (although my Mini counts I suppose) but I am still very amused and intrigued by all things small. So when a friend's wedding came along this weekend, I had an idea.
Yup, a little teeny tuxedo and wedding dress. The tux is about 3" tall, and the dress about 4". Here are a couple of better pictures of each of them.
I knit the jacket in pieces that I stitched together, and then the shirt and bow tie were made separately. The sleeve is tacked to the side of the jacket to make it look a little more realistic.
The wedding dress has a plain little skirt that actually has some eyelets on the bottom (I didn't have much time to take pictures of them because I finished them right before the wedding). I used the magic loop method for these.
For each of them I stitched a strong ring magnet into the inside, so that they could go on the fridge. They could also be used for Christmas tree ornaments.
If anyone is interested I wrote down the patterns as I went. I am going to knit another set this week to make sure that the instructions are correct, and take some much better product shots of them. I will also take some process shots, because some of it was a little finicky. Let me know if you are interested!
